Corrections Policy

Accurate journalism is not merely an aspiration — it is a commitment we renew with every story we publish. When we fall short of that standard, we correct the record promptly, transparently, and without concealment.

Our Commitment

The Hong Kong News corrects all factual errors, regardless of how minor they may appear, as soon as they are identified and verified. We do not unpublish or silently alter articles to conceal past errors. All corrections are appended to the original article with a clearly labelled editor's note and the date of correction.

How to Report an Error

We welcome reader reports of factual inaccuracies. Use the "Report an Error" button below to submit a correction request directly referencing a specific article. Alternatively, email corrections@thehk.news with the article URL and a description of the alleged inaccuracy. Please include any supporting documentation where available.

Investigation Process

All correction requests are reviewed by the article's original editor within one business day. Where a factual error is confirmed, we:

1. Correct the article text immediately.
2. Append a clear Editor's Note to the article: "Correction [Date]: This article has been updated to correct [description of error]. The original article stated [X]; the correct information is [Y]."
3. Notify the person who submitted the correction report.

Retractions

In cases where an article is found to be fundamentally and unrectifiably inaccurate, or where it should not have been published in its original form, we publish a formal retraction notice in place of the article, explaining the grounds for retraction.

Significant Updates

Where an article is updated to reflect new developments (rather than to correct an error), we note this with: "Updated [Date]: This article has been updated to include [new information]." Such updates are clearly distinguished from error corrections.

Archive & Transparency

We maintain a public corrections log available to any reader upon request. Systematic or significant error patterns are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief as part of ongoing quality assurance.
